Getting the best results from water eject
- Turn the volume all the way up with the volume buttons. Wavex shows a warning when the volume is low.
- Disconnect headphones and Bluetooth speakers. The sound has to come from the iPhone's own speakers. Wavex warns you when something is connected.
- Place the iPhone face down on a soft cloth so the speaker points at the floor and the water can drip out.
- Repeat two or three times if the sound is still muffled, then let the iPhone air-dry. Remaining moisture evaporates on its own.
- Silent mode is fine. Water eject plays even when the Ring/Silent switch or Action button has your iPhone on silent.
The speaker still sounds muffled
If several sessions and a few hours of drying don't help, Apple suggests these checks:
- Remove any case, screen protector or film that may cover the speaker or receiver.
- Check the speaker openings for dirt or lint and clean them gently with a small, soft-bristled brush that is clean and dry.
- Open Settings › Sounds & Haptics and drag the Ringtone and Alerts slider back and forth. If you hear nothing, or the slider's speaker button is dimmed, the speaker may need service.
- Make a call with speakerphone on. Static or crackling only during calls can be a network problem.

"Liquid detected" in the charging port
Water eject clears the speaker, not the charging port. If iOS shows a liquid-detection alert, unplug the cable, tap the iPhone gently with the port facing down and leave it to dry in moving air. Try charging again after at least 30 minutes; drying can take up to a day. Don't use rice, heat, compressed air or cotton swabs. Our liquid detected guide explains every step.
Noise meter shows nothing
The noise meter needs microphone access. Open Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and turn Wavex on. Readings are estimates from the iPhone microphone and aren't a calibrated measurement. Audio is never recorded.
